Abbotsford, BC - The Providence Bruins shutout the Abbotsford Heat 4-0 Friday evening at Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The P-Bruins got their goals from Kirk MacDonald, Jordan Caron and two goals from Maxime Sauve, while Michael Hutchinson earned the shutout in net. Providence returns to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Sport Bottle Night against the Charlotte Checkers.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 7:35 mark of the opening period. Jordan Caron forced a turnover in the Abbotsford zone and Sauve picked up the loose puck. He found the back of the net with a shot from the right faceoff circle for his 15th goal of the season. Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Providence made it 2-0 at the 7:24 mark of the second period. Andrew Bodnarchuk carried the puck into the zone and passed it off to Jamie Arniel. He found MacDonald in front of the net, who scored his 12th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went ahead 3-0 at the 11:28 mark. Caron once again forced a turnover and sent the puck to Sauve, who tallied his second goal of the game and 16th goal of the season.
The P-Bruins finished off the scoring at the 16:18 mark of the third period. Bodnarchuk moved the puck up the ice and into the zone for Hamill. He passed it back to Caron, who scored from the high slot, his eighth goal of the season. The P-Bruins went onto the 4-0 victory.
Hutchinson stopped all 30 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Leland Irving made 14 saves and Jean-Philippe Lamoureux made 14 saves for the Heat. The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins wrap up their three game road trip Saturday against the Heat at 10:00 p.m. The P-Bruins return to Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for Sport Bottle Night against the Checkers at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets for the 2010-11 season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
