Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch held a 4-2 lead after two periods of play, but gave up five unanswered third period goals en route to a 7-4 loss to the Binghamton Senators tonight at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.

Former Crunch winger Ryan Keller stung his former team with a hat trick, while defensemen Andre Benoit (1g, 1a) and Derek Smith (0g, 2a) added two points each and all but two Binghamton skaters registered at least one point. Barry Brust earned his third win of the season against the Crunch despite stopping just 19 of 23 shots he faced.

Nicolas Deschamps recorded his second two-goal game of the season for the Crunch and extended his point streak to five games, tallying seven points (3g, 4a) over that span. Matt Kennedy and David Laliberte added Syracuse's other two goals, while J.P. Levasseur took the loss, allowing seven goals on 42 shots.

Deschamps gave the Crunch a quick 1-0 lead, re-directing an accurate Kyle Palmieri centering feed past Brust just 4:28 into the game.

Binghamton answered back and took a 2-1 lead with two strikes in a 24-second span just over three minutes later when Keller ripped a wrister from the high slot through a screened Levasseur and Ben Gordon batted a loose puck out of mid-air into the cage shortly thereafter.

The Crunch scored three straight, all in the second period, to grab a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play, starting with a Matt Kennedy wrister that eluded Brust right off an offensive zone face-off win by Nick Bonino just 1:16 in to tie it at 2-2.

Desschamps gave the Crunch a 3-2 lead after finishing off a nice tic-tac-toe feed from a sharp angle off a pass from Mark Mitera at the 7:28 mark. Just under two minutes later, Laliberte cashed in on a rebound from a John de Gray point shot to make it a 4-2 contest, which is how the score stayed until the third period.

Back-to-back power play goals by Keller at the 2:14 and 4:13 marks of the third tied the game at 4-4 and completely tilted the ice in Binghamton's favor. Craig Schira and Benoit added sharp-angle goals at the 8:27 and 10:51 marks, respectively, and Brad Snetsinger added his first goal of the season with 1:48 left to cap the game's scoring at 7-4.
