Panthers Recall Trio from Amerks; Reassign Ellerby to Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled defenseman Joe Callahan and forwards Bill Thomas and Michal Repik from the Amerks. In a related move, the Panthers also reassigned defenseman Keaton Ellerby to Rochester. The Amerks also announced that forward Ryan Del Monte has been brought back on a second professional tryout.

The trio will meet up with the Panthers later tonight as Florida visits the Atlanta Thrashers at Phillips Arena. Game time for the National Hockey League contest is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Ellerby returns to Rochester after spending the better part of a month with the big club, earning his fifth NHL recall on January 16th. A native of Strathmore, Alberta, the 20-year-old Ellerby has played in 34 games with the Panthers this season, registering one goal and seven assists for eight points. He scored his first NHL goal against Henrik Lundqvist in Florida's 4-3 win over the New York Rangers on January 25th.

For his career in the NHL, he has appeared in 56 games, all with Florida, recording eight points (1+7) and 16 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound defenseman has played in 14 games with Rochester this year, recording three points (1+2) and four penalty minutes. Ellerby was drafted by Florida with its first choice (10th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Del Monte, 27, returns to the Amerks where he spent two months in the red, white and blue earlier this season. In 21 American Hockey League contests with Rochester this season, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward scored three goals and assisted on three others for six points, in addition to recording 25 penalty minutes. The Mississauga, Ontario, native also posted one goal and three assists in 15 games with the AHL's Worcester Sharks.

At the ECHL level this season, Del Monte has appeared in 16 combined games with South Carolina and Cincinnati, recording nine points (2+7) and 23 penalty minutes. He played under current Amerks Head Coach Chuck Weberlast season in Cincinnati, helping the Cyclones to their second Kelly Cup championship in three years. Currently in his third professional season, Del Monte has compiled 99 points (32+67) in 181 career pro games, including 41 AHL contests with Lake Erie, Rochester and Worcester.

Tonight, the Rochester Americans look to avoid a two-game sweep as they square off with the first-place Manitoba Moose for the second time in three nights at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. North Division contest will be the fifth of eight scheduled meetings between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.

The first 3,000 fans will take home a Ted Nolan bobblehead and will have the opportunity to receive an autograph from the former NHL Coach of the Year as part of the final installment of the Amerks Legends Series Night, courtesy of the Seneca Gaming Corporation. Nolan will be signing autographs in the upper atrium prior to the game from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
