Providence Bruins News Release
Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 1-0 Friday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Providence is now in third place in the Atlantic Division with 66 points and a 31-23-1-3 record, one point behind the third place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Monarchs scored the lone goal of the game in the opening period at the 1:37 mark. Bryan Schmidt dumped the puck into the zone, where it was picked up by Matt Moulson in between the circles. He sent a shot towards P-Bruins net minder Philippe Sauve and there to redirect it into the net was Gabe Gauthier.
Each team had plenty of scoring chances in the second and third periods, but both goaltender were solid in net and did not let up a goal the rest of the game.
Sauve stopped 27 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jason LaBarbera made 41 saves for the Monarchs and his league leading seventh shutout of the season. Providence was 0 for 5 on the power play, while Manchester went 0 for 4 on the man-advantage.
Providence's weekend continues with a road game Saturday versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, February 25 to complete a home-and-home battle with the Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Information on individual game tickets and Providence Bruins season ticket packages for the 2007-08 season can be obtained by calling the team's ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto www.providencebruins.com.
