Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday acquired right wing Adam Keefe (KEEF) in trade from the AHL's Manitoba Moose. In return, the Griffins' NHL affiliate, the Detroit Red Wings, loaned right wing Brendan Brooks to Manitoba.
Keefe, 22, played in 22 games with the Moose this season after suffering a knee injury during training camp, contributing four points (2-2-4) and placing third on the club with 91 penalty minutes. He also logged eight games with the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings, going scoreless with 27 PIM.
A teammate of Griffins center Evan McGrath on the Kitchener Rangers squad that captured the Memorial Cup in 2003, Keefe made his pro debut with the Moose last season, scoring five points (3-2-5) and leading the team with 158 PIM despite appearing in only 31 games. He also logged 28 games with Grand Rapids' ECHL affiliate in Toledo, pacing the Storm with 174 PIM while chipping in 21 points (10-11-21).
Keefe is expected to make his Griffins debut tonight when they visit the Peoria Rivermen at 8:30 p.m.
Brooks, 28, appeared in 51 games during his first season in Grand Rapids, recording 17 points (9-8-17) and 44 PIM. The nine-year pro signed with Detroit on Aug. 7, 2006, after totaling 27 points (14-13-27) and 61 PIM in 79 contests with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen in 2005-06.
