Turnpike rivalry renews Friday as Bears travel to Philly
February 23, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
It's the seventh game of a 12-game season series Friday between the BEARS and the Philadelphia Phantoms. The game is also the front half of a home-and-home series between the two clubs. Philadelphia will travel to HERSHEY to meet the BEARS Saturday night at GIANT Center.
The BEARS enter play Friday in second place in the AHL'S East Division standings, seven points back of the front-running Norfolk Admirals. HERSHEY still holds three games in hand on Norfolk as action begins around the league Friday. HERSHEY is coming off of an exciting 3-2 shootout victory over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Wednesday night, with Maxime Daigneault stopping all four shots he faced in the skills competition. With the shootout victory over the Penguins, the BEARS now hold a four-point edge over Wilkes-Barre for second place in the standings.
The season series with Philly has been dominated by the BEARS entering Friday's game. HERSHEY has won five out of six encounters, with Philadelphia's lone win coming at GIANT Center back on November 5. The BEARS are 3-0 in the city of brotherly love in 2006-07, including a 6-1 win back on January 24 at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The night on ice in the American Hockey League's East Division features the Bridgeport Sound Tigers traveling to Albany to face the River Rats at Times Union Center, while the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will visit New York's southern tier and the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 p.m. The Norfolk Admirals, who are in the midst of a 17-day road trip, are off Friday.
Friday's game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490-AM and 960-AM) beginning at 6:45 p.m. John Walton has the call of the game from south Philadelphia. HERSHEY will face the Philadelphia Phantoms at home Saturday and the Binghamton Senators Sunday. Game time Saturday night is at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday's tilt is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Tickets for both games are available through the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
