Admirals Fall to Omaha 1-0
February 23, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-The Milwaukee Admirals were trying to snap a pair of trends versus the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Friday night at the Bradley Center. First was three-game losing streak that they had against the Knights and the second was a stretch of 12 consecutive games that the team had alternated wins and loses.
Unfortunately for the Admirals, Omaha goaltender Curtis McElhinney had something to say about it and now the streaks sit at four and 13.
McElhinney turned aside all 33 shots that the Ads sent his way, including 26 of them in the second and third periods, and Carsen Germyn tallied the game's lone goal as Omaha topped Milwaukee 1-0.
Germyn's tally came at the 14:02 mark of the first period when he lead the Knights on a two-on-one rush into the Admirals zone and fired a wrist-shot that got between Milwaukee goaltender Pekka Rinne's right arm and the post. Dustin Boyd and Andrei Taratukhin assisted on the play.
That was all the support that McElhinney would need the rest of the way as he notched his fifth win in as many tries against the Admirals this year.
The Admirals did have a number of opportunities to even the score, but couldn't crack the Omaha netminder. With 1:34 left in a Brad Ference hooking penalty to start the second period, the Knights Warren Peters was whistled for holding, giving the Admirals over 90 seconds of five-on-three power-play time, but the Ads weren't able to connect.
Then with less than five minutes to play in the game Boyd was called for hooking which put the Admirals up a man, but yet again the team was unable to take advantage. Milwaukee's final opportunities came when Rinne was pulled for an extra attacker for the final 92 seconds of the game. The Ads created a number of good scoring chances, but McElhinney and the Omaha defense held their ground and preserved the win.
Rinne took the hard-luck loss for the Admirals stopping 17 of 18 shots and losing for just the second time in regulation in the month of February.
The Admirals travel to Houston for a matinee on Sunday before hitting the ice for their next home game on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm versus the Hamilton Bulldogs. In addition to the game, Grammy awarding winning rock band REO Speedwagon will perform in a post-game concert.
