PROVIDENCE, RI - P-Bruins forwards Jamie Arniel and Jeremy Reich scored 15 seconds apart in the second period, and Jordan Smotherman scored twice in the third as the Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-1 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence on Friday. The win was Providence's first at home this season improving their record to 3-5-1-1. The Sound Tigers drop to 4-6-0-0.

Following the Sound Tigers game on Wednesday that saw four goals scored in the first period, the opening 20 minutes of Friday's game with Providence was relatively slow. Neither team was able to convert on its lone power play opportunity of the first period, and Sound Tigers goaltender Mikko Koskinen stood strong and stopped all 16 shots that Providence fired his way to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

The P-Bruins would breakthrough against Koskinen three times in the middle period. Jamie Arniel fired a shot that ricocheted off of Sound Tigers defenseman Dustin Kohn and past Koskinen for his team-leading fourth goal of the season, and Providence captain Jeremy Reich notched his first of the year just 15 seconds later to give the P-Bruins a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. With just 1:02 remaining in the middle frame, Yuri Alexandrov fired a snap shot from the slot over Koskinen's right shoulder to put Providence ahead 3-0 heading to the final period of play.

Smotherman opened the scoring in the final period at the 5:28 mark to increase the Providence lead to four goals before Rhett Rakhshani spoiled Bruins goaltender Michael Hutchinson' shutout chances with a power play goal midway through the third to make the score 4-1. Smotherman notched his second of the period from nearly the same spot as his first with 2:34 left in the game, and Lane MacDermid rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the season just 29 seconds later.

The Sound Tigers return to action at home for Norwalk Hospital Night tomorrow evening in the first game of a home-and-home series with the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7 p.m.
