Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Two days after surrendering a two-goal lead and losing in a shoot-out, the Admirals reversed their roles and battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the third period and then won it in a shoot-out, 3-2 over the Peoria Rivermen Friday night at the Bradley Center.
In the shoot-out the Admirals scored five out of their six attempts, but couldn't secure the win until goalie Mark Dekanich turned aside Peoria's Phil McRae in the bottom of the sixth round. Mark Santorelli, Linus Klasen, Jamie Lundmark, Mark Van Guilder, and Matt Halischuk all converted in the shoot-out for the Ads, who have now scored on eight out of their last 11 shoot-out attempts, spanning two games.
Peoria jumped ahead 2-0 after the first period on goals from Ryan Reaves and T.J. Hensick. Reaves got the first tally of the night when he drove hard into the Admirals zone and flipped a back hander that snuck under the arm of Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich at 14:34 of the opening frame.
Hensick recorded his third goal of the season with just 28 seconds left in the first. Holding the puck in the left face-circle, Hensick fired a shot that Dekanich thought would be a pass and it snuck by him five-hole.
The Admirals got on the board with a power-play marker of their own at 6:21 of the second. On their third power-play of the period, forward Steve Begin provided a screen on Peoria netminder Ben Bishop while Klasen sent a writer that found the top right corner of the net to cut the Rivermen lead in half.
Milwaukee had two more power-plays in the period, giving them five in all, but failed to convert while outshooting the Rivermen 16-3. However, Peoria still led 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
It took a crazy bounce for the Admirals to finally tie the score with 6:51 remaining in the game. Jon Blum rimmed the puck from the right point, but it bounced off a seam in the glass and right to Santorelli, who had a wide open net because Bishop had gone behind the cage to play the puck.
Santorelli and Klasen each posted a goal in regulation and then added one in the shoot-out while Blum had a pair of assists on the night for the team's only multi-point effort. Mark Dekanich turned aside 27 of 29 shots for his fifth win of the season, while Bishop suffered the loss despite making 37 saves on the evening.
