
Falcons Host Crunch Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Syracuse Crunch meet for the first and only time in Springfield this year when they get together on Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons enter Friday's contest having earned at least a point in five of their last six games going 4-1-0-1 in that span.
The Falcons most recently earned a point on the road on Wednesday morning when they lost a 6-5 decision in a shootout to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Bridgeport. The Falcons rallied from 3-0 and 5-3 deficits to earn at least a point in the standings. Matt Calvert and Steven Goertzen scored third period goals for Springfield erasing a two-goal deficit and sending the contest to the extra session. Calvert scored twice in the game, while Michael Ryan and Maksim Mayorov also scored for the Falcons. The Falcons 11 different skaters record at least a point on Wednesday.
Syracuse has been off from game action since they beat the Albany Devils last Saturday by a score of 3-2 on home ice. Nick Bonino scored twice and Kyle Palmieri also converted for Syracuse in their win last weekend over Albany. Goaltender Timo Pielmeier stopped 28 of 30 shots in the victory.
FALCONS PLAYER STREAKS: John Moore is on a three-game scoring streak collecting one goal and three assists in that span. He scored his first AHL goal on 10-30 against Hartford..Matt Calvert recorded his first multi-goal game as a pro on 11-3-10 at Bridgeport. Calvert leads all Falcons rookies in scoring with four goals and three assists for even points in 11 games..Grant Clitsome is on a three-game scoring streak collecting three assists in that span.
PRODUCTIVE OCTOBER: Michael Blunden also had a strong showing in October posting six goals and five assists for 11 points in 10 games. Blunden registered at least a point in eight of the 10 games and concluded October on a four-game scoring streak picking up two goals and four assists in that span..Tom Sestito collected five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 10 games in October leading the Falcons in scoring. Sestito registered at least a point in eight of the 10 games for the month, including a four-point (2g,2a) effort in Springfield's home opener on October 9. Sestito ended the month on a four-game scoring streak collecting two goals and three assists in that span..Chad Kolarik also was steady throughout October posting four goals and five assists for nine points in 10 games. Kolarik ended October having registered at least a point in three of the final four games in the month totaling two goals and three assists in that stretch.
NHL DEBUT: Right wing Kyle Palmieri tallied his first NHL goal in his first NHL game Wednesday night, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Tampa Lightning, 3-2, in overtime. Palmieri's goal tied the game late with just 4:20 left in regulation, eventually forcing overtime. In addition, he recorded three shots on goal in 7:40 of ice time. Ryan Getzlaf's marker 2:53 into the extra session won the game for the Ducks.
Palmieri, 19, has appeared in nine games for the Crunch this season and is tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points (7g, 2a). His seven goals are tied for second in the AHL and nine points are tied for third among all league rookies. The 19-year old first-year pro was recently named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week after tallying six points (5g, 1a) in three games last week, including recording his first career hat trick on October 27 at Hamilton.
IMPRESSIVE START: Syracuse has a pair of rookies in the top six in rookie scoring in the AHL. Kyle Palmieri is third in rookie scoring with seven goals and two assists, while Nick Bonino also has nine points with two goals and seven assists.
