P-Bruins Defeat Admirals 3-1

Milwaukee, WI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 3-1 Friday evening at the Bradley Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Aaron Slattengren, Nate Thompson and Wacey Rabbit. The 42-12-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the Rockford MetroCentre versus the Rockford IceHogs at 8:05 p.m. Providence remains five points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.

The P-Bruins took the lead at the 14:36 mark of the opening period with a power play goal. Matt Lashoff sent the puck into the neutral zone for Matt Hunwick. He skated it down the left wing and cut in front of the net right outside the crease. He took a shot, but Admirals goaltender Pekka Rinne made the save. He batted the rebound into the slot where Slattengren picked up the loose puck and scored his seventh goal of the season. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The P-Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 in the second period at the 5:33 mark. Jeff Hoggan worked the puck into the Admirals zone and dished it off to Thompson trailing the play. He took a shot from the high slot and scored his 13th goal of the season. The Admirals had a chance to pull within a goal at the 18:27 mark as Rich Peverley was awarded a penalty shot, but P-Bruins net minder Tuukka Rask made the save sending the P-Bruins into the second intermission with the 2-0 advantage.

In the third period, Providence went ahead 3-0 at the 4:33 mark. Martins Karsums took a shot from just inside the blue line and the puck was tipped into the net by Rabbit. It was his eighth goal of the season, while Lashoff recorded the second assist. Milwaukee got on the board at the 7:31 mark, while on its lone power play of the third period. Alexander Sulzer tallied his seventh goal of the season, with Peverley and Cody Franson grabbing the assists. Providence went on to the 3-1 victory.

Rask stopped 13 of 14 shots for the P-Bruins, while Renne made 20 saves for the Admirals. The P-Bruins were 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins continue their seven game road trip before returning to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 7 against the Binghamton Senators for T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m. Providence is also home Sunday, March 9 versus the Worcester Sharks for a Family Game at 4:05 p.m. Receive one ticket, hot dog and soda starting as low as $16.
