GREENVILLE, SC - Henry Owens held the Charleston RiverDogs to only one run in five innings and picked up his 11th win as the Greenville Drive pulled out a 3-2 decision on Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic League action at Fluor Field.

The RiverDogs' ninth loss in 10 games puts them at 57-50 overall (18-22 in the second half). The Drive now stands at 53-56 (19-20 in the second half).

Ben Gamel (2-4, RBI) got Charleston the early lead with an RBI single that scored Cito Culver, who singled to start the game and swiped second for his 20th steal of the year.

In the second, clutch hitting from second baseman Bryan Johns put Greenville in front to stay. After Boss Moanaroa scored the tying run on a wild pitch by starting pitcher Matt Bashore (1-4), Johns smacked a two-out, two-run double into left to put the Drive ahead 3-1.

After giving up the run in the first, Owens (11-4) kept the RiverDogs off the board for the next four innings. The left-hander killed potential rallies in the second, third and fourth frames, stranding men in scoring position in all three innings. He left after five, having struck out seven and allowed five hits and only one walk.

Matty Ott relieved Owens in the sixth and was immediately greeted by Ali Castillo's third homer of the year. The solo shot cleared the Fluor Field green monster in left and brought the RiverDogs to within a run, 3-2, but they couldn't tie the game. After a scoreless seventh from Ott, Nathan Striz hurled the last two frames, including a perfect ninth, preserving the lead and earning his sixth save.

Joining Gamel with multiple hits were Nick McCoy and Reymond Nunez, who each picked up a pair of knocks from the bottom of the order. Though losing the game, the RiverDogs outhit the Drive 9-7.

Charleston manager Carlos Mendoza has yet announce his starter for Thursday night's game, while the Drive will go with RHP Mike McCarthy (2-4, 4.18 ERA). The scheduled start time for the game is 7:05 pm.
