
Late Runs Lift Shorebirds to 6-5 Win over BlueClaws

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (16-22) scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Lakewood BlueClaws (21-19) 6-5 on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Lakewood scored first in the first inning against Williams Louico. Tim Carver reached on a hit by pitch. He stole second base and reached third on a fly ball to right-center. Then, Kelly Dugan hit a grounder to short to score Carver.
The Shorebirds took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the first. Jerome Pena hit a one out single. Then, Nicky Delmonico walked. Michael Ohlman followed with a base hit into center field to score Pena. With runners at second and third on an error by the center fielder, Connor Narron ripped a two run double to left field to give the Shorebirds a 3-1 lead.
Lakewood responded with two runs in the fifth inning. Miguel Alvarez reached on a lead off walk. He moved to third on two passed balls charged to Wynston Sawyer. Alvarez scored on a wild pitch by Louico. Later in the inning, Brock Stassi singled to score former Shorebirds catcher Gabriel Lino, who walked.
In the seventh inning, Lakewood took the lead. Alvarez hit a double to the alley in left-center field and scored later on a base hit by Alejandro Villalobos.
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Shorebirds scored three runs. Narron opened the inning with a liner into center. Then, Brenden Webb walked. Jason Esposito dropped a sacrifice bunt and the relief pitcher Luis Paulino fired high to first, allowing Narron to score the tying run. Then, Sawyer lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Webb, which gave the Shorebirds a 5-4 lead. Mychal Givens followed with his third hit of the game to stretch the lead to 6-4.
Zach Petersime entered in the ninth inning for Delmarva. He gave up a run on back-to-back hits by Lino and Villalobos as Lakewood cut the deficit to 6-5. Petersime got Tim Carver to ground towards Givens to end the game. Petersime notched his fourth save of the season.
Guzman, who entered for Louico in the sixth inning, earned the win over three innings. He yielded two hits and a run.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play the series finale on Thursday night at 7:05pm. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
