HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but the Kannapolis Intimidators escaped with the 4-3 win, before 982 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday night .

The Intimidators (15-23, 48-60) swung in front in the top of the first inning against RHP Jerad Eickhoff (L, 11-5). With one away, 2B Joey DeMichele drove a triple to right-center field, before darting home on an RBI groundout by SS Chris Curley, making it 1-0.

The 'Dads (21-19, 57-52) answered right away in the bottom of the second inning. C Kellin Deglan worked a walk to start the frame, and then raced all the way in on an RBI double by DH Jorge Alfaro, tying the game, 1-1.

Kannapolis, though, opened another lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. A double by CF Adam Heisler started the charge, followed by a sacrifice bunt to advance him to third base. Curley then drove a two-run homer over the right-field wall, swinging Kannapolis in front, 3-1. RF Mark Haddow got himself on with a single and took second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, LF Kyle Robinson placed an RBI single through the middle of the infield, bringing in Haddow for the 4-1 advantage.

Hickory chipped the deficit down in the bottom of the third. SS Nick Urbanus started the frame with a base hit. He then took off for second on wild pitch and ended up at third base when the throw to second hit off him and skipped to the outfield for a throwing error charged to C Michael Marjama. One out later, Urbanus raced home on an RBI groundout from 3B Drew Robinson, cutting the Kannapolis lead to 4-2.

The Crawdads tallied again in the bottom of the sixth inning. CF Zach Cone led off with a walk, before moving to second base on a wild pitch. Jaye retired the next two batters in a row, though Cone did move to third on a passed ball in the process. Alfaro then struck out on a wild pitch that bounced away from C Michael Marjama. Instead of ending the inning, the wild pitch enabled Alfaro to get to first base and Cone to dart home from third, making it 4-3.

After scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, Hickory attempted the late comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning. With one down, Urbanus walked and 2B Rougned Odor singled, but LHP Max Peterson (S, 3) retired the next two batters in a row to close the 4-3 win for Kannapolis.
