Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - In front of another sellout crowd, the Great Lakes Loons closed the book on the regular season at home against the Dayton Dragons on Friday night with 5,333 in attendance. Despite two home runs from slugger James Outman and a late-inning flurry, the Loons fell short 4-3.
Still with one of the best records in the Midwest League sitting at 80-54 overall, the Loons now head to Ohio for their final series of the regular season where they'll visit the Lake County Captains for Labor Day Weekend. Coincidentally, the Loons also face the Captains to open the MWL Playoffs in the Eastern Division Semifinals. They'll spend the off day in greater Cleveland before Game 1 is played on Wednesday night. The series will shift to Midland for Games 2 & 3 (if necessary) on Thursday/Friday.
Outman has been on a tear since July 31 clobbering 12 of his 19 home runs this season over the last month. Two of them came on Friday he homered in both the 1st and 8th innings off Dayton starter Randy Wynne. He finished the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
As for the rest of the Loons offense, Romer Cuadrado went 2-for-4 with a double, while Sam McWilliams and Gersel Pitre eached had base hits. However, Wynne (W, 1-0) struck out 12 Loons batters and Jerry D'Andrea added four more to keep the Great Lakes offense quiet for most of the night.
Five different pitchers saw action for the Loons, including Justin Bruihl who threw three scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts. Aaron Ochsenbein and Jeff Belge combined to keep Dayton off the scoreboard over the final two frames.
