Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters began a three-game homstand with a narrow 4-2 loss against the Lake Erie Crushers on Tuesday night.

Lake Erie got on the board early by scoring four unearned runs in the first inning against Evansville starting pitcher Dan Blewett. They would be the only runs surrended on the night by the right-hander who holds a 0.69 earned run average.

Crusher starting pitcher Eric Gonzalez-Diaz took the 4-0 lead and was able to keep the Otters scoreless into the 6th inning.

Evansville second baseman Frank Martinez singled to open the inning and stole second after a pair of outs. With a full count, Chamberlain then looped a single to left-center field, scoring Martinez and cutting the deficit to three.

Down 4-1, the Otters threatened to score again in the bottom of the seventh inning but left the bases loaded.

First baseman Nick Schwaner then led off 8th inning with a solo home run to right field. The blast brought Evansville within two runs, and was the third home run of the season for Schwaner.

After the next batter reached base, Lake Erie closer Jonathan Kountis entered the game, throwing two scoreless innings to end the contest and preserve the 4-2 Crushers win.

Evansville and Lake Erie are now both tied in the Frontier League Eastern Division standings at 6-10.

Right-hander Eric Gonzalez-Diaz improves to 1-3 with the win. He allowed just one earned run in six innings. Pitcher Dan Blewett receives the loss for Evansville and is now 1-1 this season. Blewett also struck out seven batters over six innings. The save for Kountis is his fourth of the season.

The Otters and Crushers will meet again tomorrow night in the middle game of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway Night. Left-hander Josh Rickards (0-0, 8.22 earned run average) will be on the mound for Lake Erie, as he will be opposed by fellow lefty Matt Crim (0-1, 5.09 ERA). It is also $1 hot dog night at Historic Bosse Field.
