LONDON, Ontario - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up a big fifth inning and fell to the London Rippers 9-0 on Tuesday night at Labatt Memorial Park.

The Rippers broke on top with an unearned run in the fourth inning when David Christensen reached via error, stole second and was doubled home by Stephen Cardullo Jr. with two outs.

London extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth when the Rippers loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batsman, followed by a double to the right center wall by Joash Brodin to score all three runners. A two-run single by Zach Larson gave the Rippers a 6-0 lead heading into the sixth.

The Rippers added three more runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Zach Wilson and Jim Vahalik and a sacrifice fly from Clifton Thomas to push their lead to 9-0 after seven innings.

Rippers starter Jamie Richmond (2-1) took the win with seven scoreless innings with five hits and a walk while striking out six. Normal starter Tyler Stovall (1-2) took the loss.

The CornBelters will send left-hander Justin Albert (0-2, 8.64 ERA) to the mound for the middle game of the series on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Central, with pre-game on WJBC.com at 5:20.
