SYRACUSE, NY - Danny Ortiz hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Rochester Red Wings scored six unanswered runs to beat the Syracuse Chiefs 8-4 Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Ortiz went 140 at-bats and 37 games between homers, by far his longest drought of the season. His eighth home run tied him for the team lead held by Reynaldo Rodriguez and Oswaldo Arcia, who both went deep in Friday's win.

The Red Wings (49-41) struggled to get anything going early against Chiefs (34-57) starter Joe Ross. The right-hander held Rochester hitless through four innings.

Syracuse got on the board first against Wings lefty Pat Dean in the bottom of the fourth on Mario Lisson's sacrifice fly. The Red Wings responded with two runs in the top of the fifth on RBI singles from Jorge Polanco and James Beresford.

Dean pitched into the fifth but did not record an out before three straight hits to start the frame chased him from the game in favor of Alex Meyer. Meyer entered with runners at the corners and his first pitch hit the dirt and skipped away from Chris Herrmann, allowing former Wing Darin Mastroianni to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as Syracuse led 3-2.

Dean was charged with three runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4.0+ innings. He through a lot of pitches with runners on base including 26 in a scoreless first. The Boston College product did retire eight in a row at one point starting with the final out of the opening inning.

The Chiefs started the seventh inning like the fifth with three straight hits to extend the lead to 4-2. Michael Tonkin (2-1) came out of the bullpen and got the final two outs with two runners on to limit further damage.

Through seven innings, Rochester had just three hits and one against P.J. Walters (4-2), who relieved Ross after 4.2 innings. The Red Wings flipped the switch in the eighth as James Beresford singled, Arcia just missed a homer and settled for an RBI double and Reynaldo Rodriguez tied the game with an RBI double of his own. Ortiz followed with his two-run homer to give the Wings a 6-4 lead.

Rodriguez and Ortiz recorded an RBI each in the ninth to cap the scoring. Rochester finished with 11 hits with eight coming in the final two innings. Beresford finished with three hits and Arcia had two hits and reached base three times.
