The Syracuse Chiefs defeated the Red Wings 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Syracuse. The Wings head into the three-day All-Star Break in first place, 1 1/2 games ahead of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Red Wings hit the ball hard all day against Chiefs pitching, putting two runners on base in the first, sixth, and seventh innings. The Wings also put the tying runs on base in the ninth against Jose Valverde.

Jorge Polanco went 4-for-4 with a stolen base, and Jose Martinez had two hits.

Wings starter Greg Peavey worked six innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs with one walk. Peavey (0-4) struck out two and threw 102 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Caleb Thielbar and Aaron Thompson each pitched a relief inning for the Wings.

Syracuse starter Taylor Jordan pitched six scoreless innings, striking out four. Jordan (3-4) threw 67 pitches, 42 for strikes. Valverde recorded his eight save.

Polanco recorded his third multi-hit game out of the 10 games he's played for Rochester, raising his average to .366.

Next up: RHP Tyler Duffey starts for the Wings against Lehigh Valley RHP Aaron Nola when the season resumes Thursday night at Frontier Field.
