Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls dropped the rubber match of a three-game set to the Gwinnett Braves Sunday afternoon at the DBAP, falling 3-1 in 11 innings.
Tied 1-1 in the top half of the 11th inning, southpaw Jordan Norberto retired the first two hitters he faced. Jose Peraza then lined a double off the leftfield wall, before Joey Terdoslavich broke the stalemate with a two-run dinger over the Blue Monster.
The game had been knotted at 1-1 since the third inning, when the Bulls (47-43) tied the contest. Boog Powell singled with one out, before MIkie Mahtook singled to advance Powell to third. Taylor Motter then lined a single off the Blue Monster to score Powell and make it a 1-1 ballgame.
Gwinnett (45-45) had opened the game's scoring in the second inning. Adonis Garcia singled to lead off the frame, and Cedric Hunter followed with a single to rightfield. Hunter's single was misplayed by Mikie Mahtook though, as the ball went under his glove and all the way to the wall, allowing Garcia to score from first.
Ryan Kelly (3-1) earned the win for the G-Braves, tossing two scoreless innings. Norberto (1-3) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits over one inning of work. Righty Matt Andriese was solid in his start for the Bulls, going six innings and allowing just one unearned run on four hits, while striking out seven and walking none.
The Bulls return to action Thursday after the All-Star break. The Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb., and will be broadcast on MLB Network at 8 p.m.
