Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign and Gulls Open Thanksgiving Home-And-Home Series Tonight
November 27, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), visit the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:05 p.m. PT at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA. Tonight is the second of 12 meetings between the two teams this season.
Rivalry Renewed:
The Reign and Gulls opened their rivalry on November 5 with the Reign taking a 4-1 victory at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Forward Adrian Kempe recorded a hat trick and defenseman Vincent LoVerde added three assists. The top affiliates for the Los Angeles Kings (Reign) and Anaheim Ducks (Gulls) meet 12 times this season. At the NHL level, the Kings and Ducks meet five times starting January 17.
LoVerde Reaches 100:
After earning his 100th pro point earlier this season, defenseman and team captain Vincent LoVerde skates in his 100th American Hockey League game tonight and his 100th game with the King's AHL affiliate. The Chicago, Illinois, native is 10 games away from 300 professional contests heading into tonight.
Milestone Watch:
Forward Michael Mersch is two games away from 100 as a pro/Reign and forward Nic Dowd is three games away from 100 AHL/Reign tilts. In the distance, forward Sean Backman is five games away from 300 AHL contests and Head Coach Mike Stothers is eight wins away from 100 as a professional head coach.
Scouting the Gulls:
The Gulls look to snap a six-game winless streak (0-5-0-1) and five-game losing streak moving into tonight's contest. Top goaltender and Ducks prospect John Gibson was called up to the NHL earlier this week, so Matt Hackett will be relied upon between the pipes. Up front, forward Brandon Montour leads the Gulls with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) through 17 games and is currently on a three-game point streak (two goals, two assists).
Reign Blankies Tomorrow:
The Reign finish a home-and-home series against San Diego tomorrow, Saturday, November 28 at 6:00 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena! The first 5,000 fans on Saturday receive an Ontario Reign blanket courtesy of San Antonio Regional Hospital! Buy Tickets More Information
