Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs (11-4-1-2) host the Chicago Wolves (9-3-1-1) tonight at 7 p.m. in the second Illinois Lottery Cup matchup of the season between the two teams.
The IceHogs will be sporting ugly holiday sweater specialty jerseys tonight, and holding an auction and raffle throughout the game for some of the game worn jerseys. Proceeds will go towards Brovember. Fans are encouraged to wear ugly sweaters of their own to the game.
To cap off "No-shave November," the team will also attempt to break a Guinness World Record for most people with facial hair in one location. After falling only 20 people short last year, the IceHogs will invite fans onto the ice postgame for a group picture and the world record attempt.
Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for another Blues Flame Lounge Friday. Fans 21-and-older are invited to enjoy live blues music, a happy hour special, and free appetizers at the Blue Flame Lounge on the main concourse.
Fans can buy tickets online at www.IceHogs.com, over the phone at (815) 968-5222, at the BMO Harris Bank Center box office, or at any Ticketmaster Outlet including Walmart locations.
Tonight's contest will be broadcast live locally on WIFR's Justice Network on 23.3 and online at AHLLive.com. Television coverage kicks off at 6:30 p.m., with the IceHogs Warm Up pre-game show. A free audio feed is available via WXRX.com. For instant updates throughout the game, follow the IceHogs on Twitter (@goicehogs).
The IceHogs took the first meeting between the two teams with a 4-3 shootout win on Oct. 23 at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Michael Leighton saved 33 shots in the victory while Garret Ross scored the game-winning shootout goal.
Rockford has picked up at least a point in 13 of its last 14 contests dating back to Oct. 21 when they beat Iowa 3-2. The IceHogs are 9-1-1-2 over that stretch, and 7-1-1-1 in their last 10 games.
The IceHogs are 46-36-3-4 all-time versus the Wolves, who carry a 9-3-1-1 record into tonight's game. Chicago currently sits at second place in the Central Division, two spots above Rockford, but has played four fewer times.
Ryan Hartman and Ville Pokka share the team lead in points with 11 apiece for the IceHogs. Hartman, who went on a season-long six game point binge from Oct. 23 to Nov. 13, dished out an assist on Wednesday night to push his current point streak to three games. Pokka also earned an assist on Wednesday, pushing his team-leading total to nine.
Jeremy Morin enters the contest as the IceHogs all-time leading scorer against the Wolves, with 13 goals, 15 assists, and 28 points. Morin trails the team point leaders by only one point, as he has scored four goals and added six assists on the campaign.
Michael Leighton earned his 203rd career AHL victory Wednesday, putting him in a tie for 11th on the all-time list. The 2014-15 team MVP also trails the all-time AHL shutout leader Johnny Bower (45) by only three shutouts. Leighton is unbeaten at home over his last six games (5-0-0-1).
Rockford has excelled when holding a lead; the team is 6-0-0-0 when leading after one period and 9-0-0-0 when leading after two periods. The penalty kill unit has contributed significantly to the team's success, as it has only allowed three goals in 35 chances against this November, or a 91.4% kill rate.
Next Home Game: Friday, Dec. 11 vs. Iowa Wild at 7 p.m. Rockford returns home after a five-game road trip to battle the Iowa Wild. The first 1,000 fans 21-and-older will receive an IceHogs Beer Stein courtesy of Bud Light. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for a Blues Flame Lounge Friday. Fans 21-and-older are invited to enjoy live blues music, a happy hour special, and free appetizers at the Blue Flame Lounge on the main concourse.
