Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, NEB. - After a rainout Saturday, the Omaha Storm Chasers played their first doubleheader of the season on Sunday and split the two games with the Iowa Cubs, with a loud 11-1 win in Game 1 and a 6-2 loss in Game 2.

In the first game, Omaha's offense exploded for 11 runs on 16 hits that came across just the first six innings of the game. Eight players recorded hits and five multi-hit performances.

Nate Eaton singled in Michael Massey in the first inning and the Storm Chasers ed the rest of the way. In the third inning, the team rallied for seven straight hits with two outs that scored six runs, including an RBI single from John Rave, a three-run homer from Tucker Bradley and RBI singles from Clay Dungan and Angelo Castellano, Castellano's second hit of the inning.

While Iowa scored a run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk, Omaha added two more in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Dungan singled in Adeiny Hechavarría, who recorded his seocnd double of the game to open the inning, then Castellano hit a solo homer, his sixth long ball of the year, to come a triple away from the cycle. Hechavarría and Dungan recorded back-to-back RBI hits in the sixth to push the victory to 10 runs, the second double-digit win of the year.

After Brad Keller opened the first game with 2.0 scoreless innings in his second Major League rehab outing, Jonathan Bowlan followed with 4.1 innings and earned his second win in as many Triple-A appearances. Bowlan held the I-Cubs to just a run and struck out seven, pitching into the seventh inning in the day's opener. Evan Sisk inherited a pair of runners from Bowlan and struck out two to close out the 10-run victory

In his Royals organization debut, left-hander Cole Ragans cruised through four innings, holding Iowa to three hits and no runs in that span with five strikeouts. While Omaha scored a pair in the fourth for a brief lead, Ragans could not work out of the fifth and surrendered five more hits that scored five runs, on a two-run single and three-run homer that tied the game and promptly gave the I-Cubs a lead.

Christian Chamberlain recorded the final out of the fifth and Jonathan Heasley pitched a scoreless sixth but Mike Mayers allowed a solo homer in the seventh that pushed the lead too far out of reach for Omaha, the 6-2 final.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rave singled to open the frame and stole second before eventually scoring from third on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the inning, Eaton sent a solo homer out to center field for a 2-0 lead but the Chasers couldn't add anything else to the scoreboard the rest of the evening to force a doubleheader split.

In the second game, Logan Porter doubled in the sixth to stretch his on-base streak to 28 games, while Rave brought his on-base streak to 14 games and Paxton Wallace recorded a pair of hits including a double, his first Triple-A extra-base hit and multi-hit game.

Omaha will play for a series split on Monday at 7:05 p.m. CT, as left-hander Angel Zerpa heads to the mound in his second rehab start of the week with Omaha.
