Tulsa Oilers News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - Three first period goals sparked a 7-1 onslaught from the Cincinnati Cyclones (29-8-6) over the Tulsa Oilers (26-17-6) Saturday at U.S. Bank Arena.
After failing to convert on an early power play, the Cyclones kept the pressure on and Justin Vaive snapped a shot under the crossbar to make it 1-0 just 6:18 into the game. 58 seconds later, Pascal Aquin circled the Oilers' zone and ripped a shot past the glove of Evan Fitzpatrick to quickly cushion Cincinnati's lead to 2-0. Aquin scored a second time later in the frame when he tipped a shot from the point to make it 3-0 after one.
Cincinnati received six power plays in the first two periods compared to the one opportunity Tulsa had. The Cyclones scored on their fourth and fifth opportunities, as Vas Glotov scored both goals to make it 5-0. Dylan Bredo put the Oilers on the board with a shot from beneath the goal line that he banked off of Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser and into the net. But Cincinnati made it 6-1 just 33 seconds later, when Vaive capped off a 2-on-1 rush to score his second of the night.
Tulsa replaced Fitzpatrick with Ian Keserich in the third period, and the 33-year-old veteran stopped seven of eight shots, but Alex Wideman fired a one-timer into the top of the net to make it 7-1 midway through the final frame.
The Oilers finish a stretch of eight games in 11 days Tuesday in Independence, MO at 7:05pm against the Kansas City Mavericks at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Catch the action on the Sports Animal radio network in Tulsa, www.tulsaoilers.com or ECHL.TV, with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm.
