Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped their second straight game following the Holiday break on Wednesday night at the Saddledome to the Calgary Hitmen.
The Hitmen opened the scoring just under six minutes into the game with David Adaszynski muscling a loose puck over the Edmonton goal line after Oil Kings netminder Ronin Geraghty had made a save on a partial breakaway from Oliver Tulk.
Less than five minutes later, the Oil Kings were able to level the score after Carter Kowalyk was able to glove down a tipped pass into the slot of the Calgary zone and zip a shot just inside the post to the right of Hitmen goaltender Ethan Buenaventura.
Just 30 seconds later, the Hitmen regained their lead with Tulk setting up Adaszynski for his second of the game on a 2-on-1 rush.
Sean Tschigerl then made it a 3-1 lead for the home-side after he took advantage of a turnover in front of the Edmonton net for an unassisted marker.
Before the period was out, the Hitmen made it a three-goal bulge with Ethan Moore deflecting a Jacob Wright pass up over the shoulder of Geraghty from in front of the Edmonton cage.
In the second period, the Hitmen were able to tack on four more goals thanks to power play tallies from Tschigerl and Riley Fiddler-Schultz and even-strength markers from Tulk and Zac Funk.
In the third period, Nathan Pilling would rip home his ninth goal of the season on an Oil Kings power play on a nifty setup by Gavin Hodnett but that would be as close as the Oil Kings would get, falling 8-2.
Geraghty (11/15) and Kolby Hay (24/28) combined for 35 saves for the Oil Kings, while Buenaventura made 12 stops for the Hitmen. Edmonton was 1-for-6 on the power play, Calgary went 2-for-6.
Next up, the Oil Kings play their final game of 2022 when they play host the Red Deer Rebels at Rogers this Friday, December 30 at 7:00 P.M.
