Offensive Woes Continue in 5-2 Loss

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (26-33) dropped the second game of their series with the Oklahoma City RedHawks (33-26) by a score of 5-2, their seventh loss in the last nine games. The offense was held to less than three runs for the ninth time in the last 11 games, after only being held to less than three runs nine times in the prior 48 games.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning the RedHawks put up all the scoring they would need over the struggling Chasers offense with three runs in the frame, including two runs on bases loaded walks. The ill-timed walks were both given up by right-hander Louis Coleman, who had only given up three runs in his first 26.1 innings, and Omaha has 11 bases loaded walks this season compared to nine walks in that situation all of last year.

Shortstop Irving Falu provided four of the seven hits and the only RBI on the night for the Chasers, his second four-hit game this season and first time this year he has recorded a hit in all at-bats. Falu now sits at 557 career hits for Omaha, 20 knocks away from third place all-time at 577 held by Luis de los Santos (1987-1990), and if the utility man plays in tomorrow's game he will become only the sixth player in franchise history to appear in 500 games.

Left-hander Justin Marks (1-5, 6.75) suffered his third consecutive loss by allowing three runs in his 5.1 innings of work, his fourth start this year allowing three or less earned runs. In Marks' seven starts this season, the Storm Chasers have scored more than two runs in only one of his outings and have totaled 13 runs (the worst run support of any starter pitcher this season for Omaha).

The newest Storm Chaser Quintin Berry had a solid debut in his first career Pacific Coast League game, manufacturing a run virtually by himself with a single and two stolen bases in the third inning with the second stolen base forcing an error by RedHawks third baseman Brandon Laird allowing him to score. Berry had 15 stolen bases in 48 games for Toledo (Detroit Triple-A) this season before being acquired by Kansas City on waivers, and led the Tigers last year with 21 steals in his first career MLB action.

With first place Memphis winning against Nashville 2-1 tonight, the loss drops Omaha back to 5.5 games out in the division race. In the third game of the series left-hander Chris Dwyer (4-4, 3.58) will take the hill for the Chasers against Oklahoma City righty Ross Seaton (2-5, 7.60), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
