Tucson Padres News Release
The Sacramento River Cats ended the Tucson Padres five-game winning streak Thursday with a 9-3 victory at Kino Stadium. The loss dropped the Padres (33-27) into second place.
The River Cats took an early 1-0 lead on Michael Choice's sacrifice fly to center in the top of the first. John Baker's RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the second allowed Gregorio Petit to score and tie the game at one. Sacramento answered with three runs in the top of the third on RBI hits from Hiroyuki Nakajima and Luke Montz as well as Choice's second sacrifice fly of the game to go up 4-1.
Cody Decker cut the River Cats lead to two runs in the fourth with a solo home run over the left field fence. The home run was Decker's fifth of the season and fourth in his past ten games. After Sacramento added runs in both the fifth and seventh, Grant Green launched a three-run home run in the eighth to extend the River Cats lead to 9-2. The Padres rallied for one run in the ninth on Jonathan Galvez's RBI single and had the bases-loaded with two outs, but River Cats reliever Paul Smyth was able to get out of the jam and secure the win.
Sonny Gray (6-3) was the winning pitcher after going 6.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Robbie Erlin (4-1) took his first Triple-A loss after surrendering three earned runs on three hits and four walks.
Next Game: Friday, 6:05 pm vs Sacramento (Athletics affiliate) - Sacramento LHP Andrew Werner (4-8, 5.69) vs. Tucson RHP Anthony Bass (0-0, 9.00). Game coverage begins at 5:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com. Post-game concert with Lorenzo de Monteclaro and Maribel Guardia.
