Tucson Padres News Release
The Sacramento River Cats scored seven runs in the third inning and beat the Tucson Padres 14-5 Friday at Kino Stadium.
Stephen Vogt's third triple of the year brought around Michael Choice in the second inning to score the first run of the game. The next hitter, Luke Montz, drove in Vogt with a sacrifice fly to left. The River Cats then sent ten batters to the plate in the top of the third, compiling seven runs on five hits. One of those hits was a grand slam to left field from Grant Green, Sacramento's fifth grand slam of the season. Mike Wilson put the Padres on the scoreboard in the fifth by hitting a three-run opposite field home run. The home run was Wilson's second of the season, both coming against Sacramento.
The River Cats tacked on four more runs in the top of the eighth, including Montz's three-run home run over the center field batters' eye. Montz finished the night with five RBIs for the River Cats, while Jemile Weeks collected his first four-hit game of the season. Tucson scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on Rene Rivera's RBI single and Gregorio Petit's RBI groundout to cut the lead to nine runs.
Former Tucson Padre Andrew Werner (5-8) earned the win for Sacramento. The left-hander went seven innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Anthony Bass (0-1) allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings and was the losing pitcher. Tucson infielder Jesus Merchan pitched his second scoreless outing of the season.
