Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Tony Campana hit his second career inside-the-park home run, but the Reno Aces fell 12-5 to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on a beautiful Thursday night at Aces Ballpark.
Catcher Tuffy Gosewisch doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, before the Sky Sox retired the next two Aces batters in order. Campana followed with his homer, to bring the Aces within three, down 8-5.
Reno seemed to have a chance at a come-back, but a four-run ninth inning for the Sky Sox sealed the Aces eighth-straight loss.
Chris Owings went 0-for-4 on the night to snap his Minor League leading hitting streak at 23 games.
At the dish for Reno, Gosewisch went 3-for-4, including two doubles, with two runs scored. Matt Davidson also went 3-for-4, including a double, with a run scored.
Former Aces third baseman Ryan Wheeler, who was an All-Star with Reno last season, went 2-for-4 against his old club, with three RBI and a run scored. The lefty also recorded his first triple of the year.
RHP Charles Brewer was roughed up from the first inning, giving up six runs-five earned-on seven hits en route to his sixth loss of the season. He recorded seven strikeouts through 5.0 innings.
LHP Drew Pomeranz earned his seventh win of the season, giving up five earned runs on eight hits through 6.2 innings, while striking out seven. The Sky Sox bullpen combined to shutout Reno over the final 2.1 frames.
The series continues on Friday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Mike Bolsinger (0-0, No ERA) gets the nod for Reno in his Triple-A debut, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Jeff Manship (3-3, 6.70 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. for another Saint Mary's Fireworks Friday presented by KRNV News 4.
