Peoria Chiefs News Release
This weekend the Peoria Chiefs will be taking on the Clinton LumberKings from Thursday through Sunday after returning from a four-day road trip to Wisconsin. Also, Thursday and Friday's games will be the first of the season with 7:00 pm start times and with gates opening at 6:00 pm. This will become the regular time for night games, with the exception of fireworks nights, until August 28.
Following Thursday's game, Miller Beer/Baumgarten Distributing is presenting Hairbanger's Ball, a rock n' roll cover band that brings back all the classics from 80's superstars like Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Twisted Sister, and many more. Hairbanger's Ball brings everything to the table, from monster hair and leopard print spandex to pyrotechnic masterpieces that add to the off-the-wall effect.
The first 1,500 fans to arrive to Friday's game will receive free Derrek Lee Bobbleheads presented by Methodist. Gates for the game will open at 6:00 pm, and the limit is one per person, so don't miss your chance to grab these collectibles.
BirdZerk! will be entertaining crowds throughout Friday's game with their hilarious antics, like harassing umpires and coaches and pulling pranks with players. BirdZerk! will provide family fun and all-around laughs for all fans.
Saturday, June 7
CEFCU will be presenting a post-game fireworks show following the game. Stay afterwards and watch the sky light up with this dazzling display.
Before Saturday's game, a Classic Car Cruise will be taking place on Oak Street from 2-5 pm. Nearly 150 vintage cars will be on display for fans, and afterwards, gates for the Chiefs game against the LumberKings will open at 5:30 pm.
The third Pitch-In for Charity will be taking place on Saturday as well, sponsored by Aquatech Pool & Spas and Little Caesars Pizza. Three targets will be located in the outfield, and for $1, fans can buy a tennis ball to throw to the target. Each target will have a designated prize for the fan who gets their ball the closest. Numerous other targets will be in the infield with various prizes from Central Illinois restaurants and businesses. The proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to help enrich their lives.
Sunday, June 8
Sunday will cap off this exciting weekend at O'Brien Field. The first 2,000 fans to the ballpark on Sunday will receive a free set of 2008 Peoria Chiefs baseball cards. The set includes all of this season's players and coaches, including manager Ryne Sandberg, Cubs first-round draft pick Josh Vitters, starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee and catcher Josh Donaldson.
Beginning at 11 am on Sunday, fans will be able to enjoy the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, a traveling baseball celebration created by Entertainment and Sports International (ESI) that will bring over 20 attractions to O'Brien Field. Attractions include a minor league baseball museum, the Xbox 360 Best Buy Home Run Derby video game trailer, and much more.
Sunday is a Taco Bell Family Day. Vouchers can be picked up from participating Taco Bells and redeemed at the ballpark for four club box seats, $20 in concessions, a disposable camera, and a picture frame, all for the low price of $48. Also, kids 14 and under can run the bases following the game, and players will be available to sign autographs for fans.
