Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
June 4, 2008 - Jeremy Moore's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Julio Perez from second base and gave the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 4-3 walk-off win over the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The win gives the Kernels a series split with Kane County as all four games were decided by one run. Moore finished the game 2 for 4 as the Kernels had five hits in the game. Efren Navarro was 1 for 3 with a sac fly and 2 RBI and Jerry Gonzalez was 1 for 3 with a double.
Both starting pitchers delivered quality outings, although neither one figured in the final decision. Kernels starter Michael Davitt allowed three runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out three over 6.1 innings and Kane County starter Craig Italiano gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits, walked three and struck out three over six innings.
The bullpen kept the Kernels in the game in the late innings. Brian Chambers allowed a hit and struck out one over 1.2 innings and Eddie McKiernan (1-3) struck out the side in the top of the ninth and picked up his first win as a Kernel. Kane County reliever Nick Walters (1-2) took the loss.
The Kernels open a four game series with the Burlington Bees tomorrow at 7 pm as it's a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday. Draft beer is $1.50 all game and bottle soda and water is just two dollars. The gates open at 6 pm.
