Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored four runs with a two out rally in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs Wednesday afternoon. Denny Almonte, who had three hits on the day, drove in a pair of runs with a double to cap the early rally. Donnie Hume and three Rattler relievers held to Chiefs to an unearned run.

Wisconsin (25-30) jumped took advantage of some two-out wildness to get their rally going in the first. Peoria starting pitcher Chris Siegfried retired the first two batters of the inning, but issued back-to-back walks to Edilio Colina and Ron Garth. Gavin Dickey and Joe Dunigan followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Then, Almonte doubled in both Dickey and Dunigan for a 4-0 lead.

Colina singled in a run in the second and Alex Meneses drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third to make the score 6-0.

Hume ran into a little trouble in the top of the fifth inning. An error and a walk put two runners on with no outs. The Rattler lefty got Dylan Johnston to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. But, a two-out single by Elvis Lara drove in the runner from third. That hit by Lara was the first of the game for the Chiefs (24-35). Hume allowed one more hit before striking out Nate Samson to end the fifth inning.

Jose Escalona relieved Hume to start the top of the sixth a did not allow a run despite two hits and a walk. Michael Pineda pitched the next two innings and also kept the Chiefs off the scoreboard. Justin Souza closed down the game with a scoreless ninth.

The win, Wisconsin's third straight, allowed the Rattlers to take the series from the Chiefs three games to one.

The Rattlers begin a four game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits on Thursday night. Juan Ramirez (3-4, 3.76) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Brian Broderick (2-3, 3.88) is set to start for the River Bandits. Game time on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium is 7:05pm.
