
Seven Lugnuts, Four Loons Highlight Eastern Squad; Clinton Sends League-High Nine

Rosters have been set for the 2008 Midwest League All-Star Game, powered by Dow Corning, June 17 at Dow Diamond, the Midwest League office has announced.
Four members of the host Great Lakes Loons have been selected to play in the game. Andrew Lambo will be an outfield starter for the game. Lambo is currently second in the Midwest League in RBIs (42). Pitchers Steven Johnson, Miguel Ramirez and Kenley Jansen also have been selected to the team. Johnson is currently fourth in the league in wins (six). Ramirez leads the Midwest League in saves (12) and has allowed one earned run this season. Jansen, with five homers, will serve as a reserve catcher on the team.
The Clinton LumberKings will send a league-high nine players to the all-star game, including Midwest League home run and RBI leader Ian Gac. Seven members of the Lansing Lugnuts are represented on the Eastern squad, the most in the division.
The starters for the Eastern squad will be: catcher Sean Coughlin (South Bend), first baseman Chris Carlson (West Michigan), second baseman Andy Parrino (Fort Wayne), third baseman Brandon Waring (Dayton), shortstop Pete Kozma (Quad Cities), outfielders Lambo, Charlie Kingery (Quad Cities) and Evan Frey (South Bend), and designated hitter Manny Rodriguez (Lansing).
Starting for the Western team will be: catcher Jose Felix (Clinton), first baseman Gac, second baseman Steve Singleton (Beloit), third baseman Garrett Olson (Beloit), shortstop Renny Osuna (Clinton), outfielders Adrian Ortiz (Burlington), Mitch Moreland (Clinton) and Corey Brown (Kane County), and designated hitter Jovan Rosa (Peoria).
The teams will be managed and coached by the staffs of the division-leading teams as of the end of the first half of the season (June 15). Starting pitchers will be announced by the teams' managers at a later date.
The league also announced the umpires for the all-star game. Antonio Gutierrez will call the balls and strikes. Joe Hannigan (first base), Brandon Misun (second base) and Nate Thompson (third base) will serve as base umpires. Thompson hails from Attica, MI.
