Trenton Thunder News Release

(Erie, PA) - Vidal Nuño tossed six sharp innings to earn his first Double-A victory as Trenton Thunder defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 7-4, Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park. Nuño (1-1) carried a shutout into the seventh as the Thunder (33-24) bounced back from a shutout loss Tuesday by pounding out seven runs on 12 hits.

The lefty Nuño (4-4) allowed one run on five hits in six plus innings, walking two and striking out four. He finally had his streak of 22 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run snapped when Brandon Douglas doubled in his runner against Kelvin Perez in the seventh.

Trenton jumped to a big lead by scoring five runs against Erie starter Zack Segovia (5-6), whom the Thunder defeated for the third time in four outings against them this season. Abraham Almonte's RBI single highlighted a two-run third inning rally that snapped a scoreless tie.

Trenton then scored three more off Segovia in the fifth on three doubles and a single that hit the left field wall. Melky Mesa, just returning from the disabled list before the game, and Jose Gil collected RBI two-base hits in the fifth and Addison Maruszak later singled in a run with a blast high off of the fence in left center.

Luke Murton's two-run blast to left that cleared the high wall of the adjacent Tullio Indoor Arena made the score 7-0 in the seventh. It was Murton's seventh of the season and the team's 13th in the last ten games. Erie scored once in the seventh and eighth, then added two in the ninth against Ryan Pope.

Abraham Almonte collected the first four-hit game for any Thunder player this season, going 4-for-5 (all singles) with an RBI and one run scored. Michael Rockett homered for the SeaWolves.

The Thunder and SeaWolves conclude the three-game and the season series on Thursday night with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm. Right-hander Mikey O'Brien (2-1, 3.65) will start for Trenton while lefty Jared Wesson (4-2, 5.83) will pitch for Erie. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and 1490 AM (WBCB) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
