Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Netminder Eddie Pasquale stymied the Manchester Monarchs for 59 minutes of the game as the St. John's IceCaps took the game, 3-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday.

Manchester (21-7-1-4) leads the Atlantic Division with 47 points. St. John's (16-12-1-2) is ranked third in the Atlantic Division with 35 points.

"I was really excited about our first period; we overwhelmed them, I thought, for the most part in the first period, they couldn't get out of their end and we had a lot of pressure," said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "Second period, penalties came into the game and we lost momentum. Then, those two late goals really hurt us. We had some miss coverages on the penalty kill and it really put us in a bind. Up until that point, we were still in the game, and it could have gone our way."

The IceCaps performed a tic-tac-toe play to go up 2-0 late in the second frame. Defenseman Zach Redmond sent the puck into the corner onto center John Albert's stick. Right wing Andrew Gordon was positioned low in the slot where Albert found his tape for a quick shot past goaltender J.F. Berube on his stick side. The goal marked Gordon's 11th tally of the season at 18:20 of the second.

After a scoreless first period, St. John's broke the deadlock tie with a rocket wrist shot from defenseman Will O'Neill. After some passing between defensemen, the IceCaps found left wing Kael Moullierat on the boards by the right face-off circle. Moullierat sent the puck to Redmond in the right corner. The defenseman found O'Neill across the slot by the left face-off dot. The pass across the crease gave O'Neill the open shot to put it by Berube high on the blocker side at 17:23 of the middle frame. O'Neill's third tally of the season put the IceCaps on the board at 1-0.

St. John's third goal of the night came from center Adam Lowry, his third tally of the season. Right wing J.C. Lipon fed left wing Carl Klingberg in the slot. His shot went off Lowry's stick to redirect low on Berube's body. The netminder made the save, but the puck managed to trickle through his legs and over the goal at 2:48 of the third frame.

Late in the third period, the Monarchs put a goal on the scoreboard at 19:07. Right wing Brandon Kozun threw a pass to defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk near the end red line on the right side. Bodnarchuk attempted to pass the puck to left wing Nick Deslauriers, but it was deflected up high by a St. John's defenseman's stick. Deslauriers caught the puck, dropped it to the ice and immediately slid it past Pasquale to take away the shutout with 52 seconds remaining in the game.

Berube (12-6-2) took his sixth loss of the season making 22 saves on 25 shots. Pasquale (12-9-1) picked up his 12th win of the season, stopping 35-of-36 shots.

Manchester was 0-for-2 on the power play. St. John's went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
