Portland Pirates News Release
Albany, NY - The Pirates finish off their two game road trip tonight in Albany when they face the Devils. Puck drop is 5 pm from the Times Union Center as the Pirates look for their third straight win.
The Pirates were winners on Boxing Day, defeating the Manchester Monarchs 4-1 in the 6th game of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires & Service. Lucas Lessio was the star for the Pirates, scoring two power play goals and adding an assist to lead the Pirates and Louis Domingue made 34 saves and had an assist for his first career win against a team other than the Providence Bruins. Andy Miele added to his team lead in goals with an empty netter, while Randy Jones added two assists and Brendan Shinnimin also scored for the Pirates. The win cuts the VIP Cup deficit to 4-2 in favor of Manchester. For more information about the VIP Cup, visit www.vip-cup.com.
Albany shut out the Adirondack Phantoms last night 2-0 behind a strong performance by goaltender Keith Kinkaid. Kinkaid stopped 19 shots for his league leading 4th shutout of the season, and took over the AHL's top goaltending spot with a 1.97 goals against average. Albany's goals were scored by Scott Timmins and Chris McKelvie.
The Pirates and Devils faced off on October 26th for their first meeting of the season, with the Pirates winning 5-2. Brett Hextall scored twice for the Pirates while Mark Visentin made 34 saves in the win. Jordan Szwarz and Gilbert Brule, now both with the Phoenix Coyotes, had goals for the Pirates while Jordan Martinook added a tally as well. Scott Timmins and Reid Boucher had Albany's goals in a game that saw the first period stopped with 3:02 left due to a shattered pane of glass and resume just prior to the second.
KeyBank Key to the Game
The Devil's in the Details: The Pirates must play a detail oriented game as they did against Manchester Thursday night in order to gain the advantage tonight. The Pirates only were called for one penalty while converting on 2 of their power play opportunities, so special teams as well as intangibles will play an important role as well.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 4:40 with Jeff Mannix. Tickets are available by calling (207) 783-2009 or online at thecolisee.com.
