Cleveland Monsters News Release
Andrew Agozzino scored with 1:45 left to force overtime, and Mark Olver netted the game-winner to help the Lake Erie Monsters (15-12-0-3) to a 5-4 overtime win over the Chicago Wolves (16-12-1-2) Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena before a crowd of 7,283. Michael Schumacher had a goal and two assists for the Monsters, while Trevor Cheek and J.T. Wyman also scored goals. Calvin Pickard stopped 35 shots in his eighth win of the season in net.
Schumacher drove the net, and the rebound from his shot at 4:50 of the first period took a bounce over the goal line to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead early in the first period. Karl Stollery assisted on the first Monsters goal, which was the first in the American Hockey League for Schumacher. Just 1:09 later, Trevor Cheek netted a shot top-shelf- his second of the season- to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead, with an assist to Cam Reid.
Chicago's Sebastian Wannstrom scored at 16:41 of the first period, but the Monsters would hold their 2-1 lead through the end of the opening period.
J.T. Wyman picked up his own rebound, scoring his fourth of the season and giving the Monsters a 3-1 lead at 8:09 of the second period, but Chicago would counter with three unanswered goals. Keith Aucoin scored twice, and Evan Oberg added a goal for Chicago between the 15:46 and 19:33 marks of the second period, giving Chicago a 4-3 advantage; their first lead of the game.
With 1:45 left in the game, Andrew Agozzino tied the game when he sent a loose puck over the shoulder of Chicago goalie Matt Climie to tie the game at 4-4. Matt Hunwick assisted on the goal, which was the sixth of the season for Agozzino.
In overtime, Schumacher took possession off of a Wolves turnover, cut up the left side, and found an open Mark Olver in front of the Chicago net. Olver one-timed a shot past Climie for the game-winner; his sixth goal of the season.
Calvin Pickard is 8-7-2 with the win after stopping 35 of 39 Chicago shots. Climie stopped 26 of 31 shots, and is 3-6-0 on the season.
The Monsters are back in action Wednesday in Utica at 3:00 PM. The game airs live on AM 1420 WHK.
