Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals and Beach Engraving are proud to announce that Admirals forward Norm Milley has been named the winner of the 2007-08 Norfolk Admirals Player of the Year award, as voted upon by the players and coaching staff.

Milley, a 6-foot-0, 211-pound right wing out of Toronto, Ontario, ranks second in goals, assists and points this season with Norfolk. In 56 games, the Admirals' alternate captain has scored 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points with a -1 rating. He also scored three power play, two shorthanded and three game-winning goals. His season was cut short by a shoulder injury in early March.

"Norm will always get goals and assists because he's a talented player," said Admirals Head Coach Steve Stirling. "But the quality that I appreciate most about him is that he does all the little things that you need a veteran to do. He sends a message to the young kids about how the game is supposed to be played. Norm plays hard, does the simple things well and is a real character guy off the ice."

Milley skated in his 500th career American Hockey League contest on October 27 versus Philadelphia. In 549 career AHL contests between Norfolk, Springfield and Rochester, Milley has 149 goals and 208 assists for 357 points and 331 penalty minutes.

The Buffalo Sabres drafted Milley in the second round (47th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. After five seasons in the Buffalo system, Milley signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to the 2005-06 season. In 29 career NHL games between Buffalo and Tampa Bay, Milley has two goals and four assists for six points and 12 penalty minutes.

The Admirals and Beach Engraving honored Milley's selection as Player of the Year prior to last Saturday's game against the Albany River Rats. Milley's name was added to the Norfolk Admirals Player of the Year Trophy and Beach Engraving owners Alan and Betty Jo Gumbs presented him with an inscribed Tag Heuer watch.

The awarding of the Player of the Year trophy started in the 2004-05 season with the donation of the trophy by Beach Engraving. Prior winners of the award include Rene Bourque (2004-05), Mark Cullen (2005-06) and co-winners Corey Crawford and Martin St. Pierre (2006-07). The trophy is currently on display in the Admirals Administrative Offices at Norfolk Scope and will be on display on the upper concourse during all Admirals games.

The Admirals will round out the 2007-08 schedule with three road contests this week: at Albany on Wednesday, at Binghamton on Friday and at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday. All three games will be broadcast on 100.5 MAX-FM.

The games on Friday in Binghamton and Saturday in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will also be Admirals B2 Nights at Baxter's. Watch both games on the big screen at Baxter's Sports Lounge on Granby Street in Downtown Norfolk starting at 7:05 p.m. For more details, please visit norfolkadmirals.com.
