Dallas Stars Recall Goaltender Tobias Stephan From Iowa; Assign Right Wing Konstantin Pushkarev

FRISCO, Tex. - The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Tobias Stephan from the Iowa Stars, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League and assigned right wing Konstantin Pushkarev to Iowa. Pushkarev was recalled under emergency conditions for yesterday's contest against the San Jose Sharks at American Airlines Center, but did not dress.

Stephan, 24, made his NHL debut on Oct. 13 at Chicago and stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced in a 2-1 overtime loss. In 60 games with the Iowa Stars this season, Stephan has posted a 27-25-2 record with a 2.65 goals-against-average, a .910 save percentage and six shutouts. Among the American Hockey League's top goaltenders, he played tied for second with six shutouts and tied for fourth win 27 wins.

The 6-2, 180-pound goaltender appeared in his first North American professional season in 2006-07 with Iowa and posted a 10-15-0 record, a 2.88 goals-against-average and a shutout in 27 games played. He also played in two of Iowa's Calder Cup Playoff games last season, recording a 3.46 goals-against-average.

The native of Zurich, Switzerland, was originally selected by Dallas in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft. He played for the Kloten Flyers in the Swiss National League from 2002-06 and represented Switzerland at the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships, as well as the 2001 and 2002 World Under-18 Championships.

Pushkarev, 23, was acquired by Dallas via trade from Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 2007, along with Mattias Norstrom and two Kings draft picks, in exchange for defenseman Jaroslav Modry, the rights to prospect Johan Fransson and three draft picks. In 45 games with Iowa this season, he has notched 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points with 43 penalty minutes. Pushkarev currently leads Iowa with a +7 rating, ranks second in assists and places third in scoring.

The 6-0, 190-pound right wing has skated in 17 career NHL games, all with Los Angeles, recording two goals and three assists for five points with eight penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Kings in the second round (No. 44 overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft, Pushkarev collected an assist in his NHL debut, March 27, 2006 vs. Vancouver, and tallied his first career NHL goal on Jan. 8, 2006 vs. Edmonton.

The native of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, split the 2006-07 season between Manchester and Iowa in the AHL, and Los Angeles in the NHL. In 50 total AHL contests, he collected six goals and 16 assists for 22 points with 54 penalty minutes. He added five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games with Iowa last spring.
