Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl, proud affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, announced today that the AHL's Norfolk Admirals have reassigned two defensemen to Greenville. VLADIMIR GUSEV and CODY BLANSHAN will head to the Grrrowl after spending training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks and Norfolk Admirals.
Gusev returns to the Grrrowl after playing last season in Greenville, recording career-highs in games (70), goals (8), assists (11), points (19), penalty minutes (113), shots (118), and plus/minus (+2). Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 4th round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3, 205-pound defenseman was called up for a pair of games by the Admirals in March of this year. A native of Novosibirsk, Russia, Gusev is entering his third professional season.
Blanshan spent last season with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, registering career-highs in goals (6), assists (21), points (27), and penalty minutes (115), while chipping in five points in 11 playoff games. Originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the eighth round of the 2003 draft, Blanshan was signed by the Admirals this past off-season and sent to Chicago's training camp. The 6-1, 220 pound native of Eagan, MN also spent one season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 2002-03.
