Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx got a tremendous scoring boost to their lineup today with the return of forward Jamie Johnson to the club from the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League.

The 23-year-old Johnson started the fall in Dallas Stars training camp before being assigned to Iowa. In three appearances with Iowa, Johnson registered a goal and five assists, including a three assist performance against Peoria on Friday night.

"Obviously getting Jamie back is huge for us," said Bob Ferguson, Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations. "After finishing second in the ECHL in scoring behind a former NHL Rookie of the Year (New Jersey Devils' Scott Gomez), it's clear he has outstanding offensive talents that we're glad to showcase in our lineup."

Indeed, Johnson destroyed any notion of a sophomore slump with 22 goals and 80 points, tying him for second overall in ECHL scoring with Toledo's Carl Mallette. Acquired by the Lynx in a trade with Rod Sarich for Matt Dzieduszycki (who later returned to the club that off-season), Johnson was extended a qualifying offer by Augusta this summer. Former Columbia Inferno head coach Scott White, now an assistant with the Iowa Stars, saw to it that Johnson was invited to a Dallas prospects camp this summer, leading to his recent time in training camp.

With Johnson on board, the Lynx now have 13 forwards in camp, including Ryan Lang, Brian Passmore, Doug Wright, Jake Riddle, Chris Chaput, Jimmy Callahan, Rich Hansen, Ryan Bennett, Colt King, Sam Ftorek, James Massen, and Doug Scatchard. Defensively, the team will have Marty Lapointe, Phil Cole, Shaun Fisher, Ken Scuderi, Treavor Peterson, Eric Lundberg, and Ryan Thrussell skating in training camp as well.
