WBS Penguins assign 11 to Wheeling

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announce that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have assigned 11 players to the ECHL. The Nailers will receive five forwards, four defenseman, and two goalies in time for the start of training camp on Thursday October 7th.

Pascal Morency- Forward, 23, is entering his third professional season and second with the Nailers. The 5'10" 196 pound native of Montreal, Quebec appeared in 53 games last year with the Nailers recording eight goals, nine assists, while racking up 252 penalty minutes. Before coming to Wheeling, Morency played for the Flint Generals in the UHL

Cam Paddock- Forward, 22, is entering his second professional season playing for the Nailers. The 6'1" 185 pound native of North Vancouver, British Colombia played in 16 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year registering 13 penalty minutes. In 53 games with the Nailers he scored 11 goals and 18 assists with 70 penalty minutes. Paddock was a 5th round (137th overall) selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Drew Fata- Defenseman, 22, is entering his third professional season, having spilt time between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling in each of his first two seasons. In 32 games last season with the Baby Penguins the 6'1" 209 pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario scored one goal and one assist with 88 penalty minutes. For the Nailers Fata appeared in 22 games recording an assist and 55 penalty minutes. Fata was a 3rdround (86th overall) selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2001 Entry Draft

Andy Chiodo- Goaltender, 22, is entering his third professional season, after splitting time between Pittsburgh, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and Wheeling the past two seasons. The 5'11" 194 pound native of Toronto, Ontario appeared in eight games with Pittsburgh in 2003-04 putting up a 3.46 goals against average and a .892 save percentage. He backstopped the Nailers in 22 games last season recording a 2.24 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. Chiodo was a 7th round (199th overall) selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 Entry Draft.

Alex Rouleau- Defenseman, 22, is entering his third professional season and third with the Nailers. The 6'1" 190 pound native of Mont-Laurier, Quebec played in 70 games last season with the Nailers scoring three goals and 13 assists with 127 penalty minutes. During the AHL playoffs Rouleau appeared in two games for the Baby Penguins putting up seven penalty minutes. He was a third round (96th overall) selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2001 Entry Draft.

Curtiss Patrick- Forward, 25, is entering his second professional season after playing last year with the Nailers. The 6'3" 190 pound native of Hampton, Virginia played in 47 games last season scoring one goal and two assists and 99 penalty minutes. Before turning pro Patrick played four years at Penn State University.

Mike Doyle- Forward 25 , will be entering his first professional season, after playing four years at St. Cloud State University. In his last season the 6'2" 215 pound native of Anchorage, Alaska scored nine goals and eight assists with 32 penalty minutes in 36 games.

Kurtis McLean- Forward, 25, will start his rookie season with the Nailers, after playing four years at Norwich University (NCAA Div. III). While at Norwich the 5'11" 180 pound native of Kirkland Lake, Ontario scored an amazing 212 points in just 115 games. McLean got a taste of pro hockey at the end of last season playing in four games with Richmond in the UHL scoring one goal and two assists.

Paul Bissonnette- Forward, 20, is entering his rookie season in the Pittsburgh Organization. The 6'3" 212 pound native of Welland, Ontario played for two teams in the OHL last season recording three goals and 17 assists with 92 penalty minutes in 63 games. Bissonnette was a fourth round (121st overall) selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 Entry Draft.

Brent Henley- Defenseman, 25, is entering his fifth professional season, and first with the Nailers. The 6'7" 250 pound native of Coquitlam, British Columbia played in 27 games last season with the Edmonton Roadrunners of the AHL scoring one goal and three assists while racking up 94 penalty minutes.

Derek Dolson- Goaltender, 24, is entering his second professional season, after playing last year with Odessa in the CHL. He appeared in 27 games last season recording a 2.05 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. Dolson was named the Rookie of the year by his teammates for Odessa.

The Wheeling Nailers will open training camp on Friday October 7th with a 10:00 AM ice session. The first home pre-season game will be on October 15th at WesBanco Arena at 7:30.
