Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx and the Salvation Army are teaming up to provide help to the local relief effort with their First Annual Black and Blue Game, slated for Tuesday, October 11th at 6:30 pm.
The Black and Blue Game will feature a two-period scrimmage between Lynx squads at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center, giving fans their first taste of the 2005-06 hockey season. The Salvation Army band will be performing the U.S. National Anthem prior to the game as well as giving a pre-game concert starting at 6 pm.
"We're honored to partner with such a worthwhile organization to raise awareness about the needs we have right here in the CSRA," said Major James Hall, commanding officer of the Salvation Army of Augusta. "I can't think of a more exciting way to do it."
Parking and admission are waived for the game, with donations for the Salvation Army accepted at the main entrance on the 7th Street side of the arena. Chuck-a-puck for the evening will also go to benefit the Salvation Army as well.
The contest itself will consist of two, 20-minute periods with a break at the half. Local radio and television celebrities will serve as coaches for the two squads, and half time will not only have chuck-a-puck for fans but also a celebrity broomball game sure to entertain!
"The Lynx have always enjoyed giving back to the community as much as possible, and I think in this case we all need to respond strongly," said Lynx general manager Paul Gamsby. "Partnering with the Salvation Army gives us an excellent chance to do just that in a major way."
Celebrity coaches and broomball participants will be announced in the coming week, so keep your browser pointed to www.augustalynx.com for more information, or call (706) 724-4ICE.
