Last Game Out: The Norfolk Tides were shutout by the Memphis Redbirds, 5-0, Friday night at AutoZone Park. The series is now tied at 2-2. Four of Memphis' runs came in the third inning. Ben DeLuzio hit a two-run single to take the original lead. DeLuzio would score on a pickoff throwing error by Tides starter Chris Val- limont. Luken Baker knocked in the final run of the inning with an RBI double. One more run would score for the Redbirds in the fourth when Evan Mendoza hit an RBI groundout. That would put it the final score at 5-0.
Shooting Blanks: Last night was the eighth time the Tides were shutout this season, with all eight times happening on the road...
it's the second time this month the Tides have been shutout (July 4 at Jacksonville)...the Tides have been shutout in back-to-back games twice this season (April 29 - 30 at Gwinnett | May 7 - 8 at Nashville)...after games they've been shutout, the Tides are 3-4...
Norfolk pitchers have only thrown three shutouts, all at Harbor Park.

Stowers Powers: The only Tide to have multiple hits last night was Kyle Stowers, who went 2-for-4...it was his 13th multi-hit effort, which includes four of his last five games...Stowers extend- ed his hitting streak to five games, batting .455 (10-for-22) with four runs, a double, a triple, two home runs, nine RBI and a walk (.478 OBP)...Stowers ranks among International League leaders in extra-base hits (40, 1st), doubles (23, T-4th), slugging (.540, 6th), OPS (.899, 7th) and RBI (59, T-7th).
Homegrown: Of the 12 Orioles batters that played in the game last night at Cincinnati, 11 of them are former Norfolk Tides...
Rougned Odor was the only Oriole to not play for the Tides...
Terrin Vavra made his Major League Debut last night by pinch running for Trey Mancini in the ninth inning, but has yet to play in the field or record a plate appearance...of the five pitchers for the Orioles last night, three have appeared on Norfolk's roster in Kyle Bradish, Dillon Tate and Joey Krehbiel (Krehbiel never played for Norfolk but did appear on the roster last season)...Bradish made the start yesterday after ending his MLB Rehab assignment, allow- ing two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out seven in 5.0 innings.
The Pen is Mightier: The Tides bullpen combined for 3.0 scoreless innings last night...Rico Garcia threw 2.0 scoreless innings while Logan Allen finished the game with a scoreless outing himself...
Garcia is riding a 6.0 scoreless innings streak (since June 29), low- ering his ERA from 3.86 to 2.70 in that span...six of Garcia's 10 appearances have him throwing at least 40 pitches...Allen allowed three earned runs over his last two games before last night's scoreless outing...on this road trip, the Tides bullpen has thrown an ERA of 5.71 (22 ER, 34.1 IP) while the starters have a 8.87 ERA (23 ER, 23.1 IP)...the bullpen's ERA (4.92) has been slightly better than the starter's ERA (5.08) this season.

Battle of the Baby Birds: The Tides head to Memphis to face the Redbirds in series two-of-three of this season...in the first series, Norfolk won the series opener, but lost the remaining five games of the series...the two cities do have a shared history, as the Nor- folk Tides squared off against the Memphis Blues from 1974-76, with Tides going 35-28 during that span...both the Tides and the Blues were a part of the Mets farm system from 1969-73, with Memphis as the Double-A club competing in the Texas League...
the Blues would become the Triple-A club for the Montreal Ex- pos in 1974...the Tides can clinch the all-time record vs. Memphis through this series if they can win one of the final two games this week.
Tidebits: After going 0-for-3 last night, Brett Cumberland snapped his 10-game on-base streak...Chris Vallimont (2-4) has earned a decision in all six of his appearances for the Tides so far...the three hits by the Tides matched their lowest nine-inning game total of the season (July 12 vs. Worcester) and was the lowest batting av- erage for a nine-inning game this season (.100, 3-for-30)...Rylan Bannon's walk last night tied him for the team lead (43, Cadyn Grenier) and is ranked tied for 16th in the International league in walks...of the the four Tides eligible to qualify as a league leader in on-base percentage, Bannon ranks second (Kyle Stowers, .359).
