Norfolk Earns A Point In Its Eighth-Straight Game

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals (23-23-3-1) forced overtime to run their point streak to eight games (6-0-1-1) but fell in a shootout to the Hershey Bears (38-9-0-2) 3-2 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals will continue a six-game homestand on Friday and Saturday nights against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Norfolk struck first 12:21 into the first period. Mark Parrish intercepted a Hershey clearing attempt at the right point. He attempted a shot that appeared to be going wide of the net toward the left corner. However, Mitch Fadden redirected the puck from the top of the crease into the net past the right leg of Bears goaltender Jason Bacashihua for his second goal of the season.

Hershey tied the game less than six minutes later. Oscar Osala sent a shot from the left circle that bounced off Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski and bounded through traffic the slot. Andrew Joudrey found the rebound and poked it between the legs of the Norfolk netminder and into the net at 18:20.

Norfolk took a 2-1 lead 7:42 into the second period. Adam Hall won a puck battle in the left corner of the Hershey zone. He sent a long pass to the right point and Matt Lashoff sent a one-time slap shot into the corner of the net behind the left shoulder of Bacashihua for his fifth goal of the season.

The Admirals were under assault from then on - particularly in the third period where the Bears out-shot them 9-1. The Norfolk penalty kill was especially strong, negating a four-minute double-minor penalty to Paul Szczechura for high sticking and a two-minute minor for hooking to Kevin Quick in the first ten minutes of the period.

However, the Bears found the equalizer with just 2:08 remaining in regulation. Joudrey entered the Norfolk zone along the left wing and dropped a pass to Patrick McNeill at the left point. McNeill returned the puck to Joudrey in the left circle. Joudrey sent a shot from near the left faceoff dot over the left shoulder of Tokarski and into the net for his second goal of the game.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout for the first time at Scope this season. The Bears struck first as Keith Aucoin tallied in the bottom of the second round. Juraj Simek scored in the top of the third round to tie the shootout at one conversion apiece. However, Chris Bourque decided the game when his shot in the bottom of the fifth round found its mark, as the Bears won the shootout 2-1 and the game 3-2.

Dustin Tokarski (29 shots, 27 saves) saw his five-game winning streak end but still is unbeaten in six games with the shootout loss, which is counted as a tie for goaltenders. Jason Bacashihua (25 shots, 23 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Hershey was 0-4.

The Admirals will host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday and Saturday nights at Scope. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
