Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
After having everything go their way in the first two games of the series, the Winnipeg Goldeyes had very little go right for them Wednesday night, but still found themselves with a chance to win in the bottom of the ninth inning.
However, history will record a loss for the Goldeyes last night, as Winnipeg outfielder Ridge Carpenter was tagged out at home plate for the final out in a 3-2 loss to the Sioux Falls Pheasants before 6,029 fans at Shaw Park.
Sioux Falls built a 3-0 lead with singles in the first, third and fourth innings before the Goldeyes would respond in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jon Weber ploughed through Sioux Falls catcher Henry Contreras for the Goldeyes first run. In the ninth, a two-out knock from Price Kendall scored Louis Ott from the third, but Carpenter couldn't score from second and the game was over.
Kendall was the only member of the Goldeyes to have more than one hit in the game with three.
Winnipeg committed three errors in the game, one of which led to a Sioux Falls run.
Goldeyes starter Ace Walker took the loss in the game to fall to 8-4 on the year and will have to wait at least one more start to break the Goldeyes all-time wins record. Sioux Falls starter Chris Salberg grabbed the win.
Even with the loss, Winnipeg remains a game up on the St. Paul Saints for first place in the North Division because the Saints lost to the Wichita Wingnuts last night.
Winnipeg can win the series tomorrow in the fourth and final game of this weekday series. The matinee goes at 12 p.m. at Shaw Park.
