Sox Can't Overcome Diablos Pitching, Fall 6-4

AMARILLO, TX - For the third straight night against the El Paso Diablos, the Amarillo Sox put the tying run on base in the ninth inning but couldn't score them as the Sox fell by the score of 6-4 on Wednesday night in front of 1,953 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Amarillo starter Austin Chambliss (1-4) got the loss, allowing three runs but only one earned in five innings pitched. Diablos starter Reymond Cruz (3-6) got the win, allowing four runs off four hits in six and one-thirds innings. Reyes Dorado earned his second save, allowing no runs in two innings.

The Sox got on the board first in the first as Matt Tucker walked and was hit home by a Lee Cruz homerun for a 2-0 Amarillo advantage.

The Diablos tied the game in the fourth. Albenis Machado led off by reaching on an error, went to second on a Nelson Teilon single and took third on a double play. Uriak Marquez singled to score Machado. Following an Alberto Espinosa single, Brian Joynt doubled to score Marquez to tie the game 2-2.

El Paso took the lead in the fifth as Johan Garcia walked, went to third on a Maikol Gonzalez single and scored as Gonzalez was thrown out attempting to steal for a 3-2 Diablos lead.

Following two more El Paso runs in the seventh, Amarillo finally got back on the board. Van Pope led off with a walk, while Josh Banda hit a two-run homerun to bring the Sox within a run at 5-4.

The Diablos added another run in the eighth on a Joynt RBI single for a two-run lead. In the ninth, Pope led off with a double, while Adam De La Garza walked to put the tying run on base, but Kevin Butler and Ron Fenwick were both retired to end the game with the Sox falling 6-4.

With the loss, the Sox fall to 38-44 while the Diablos improve to 28-53. Thursday, Amarillo will take on El Paso for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
