Wheeling Nailers News Release
JOHNSTOWN, PA - Johnstown Chiefs' goaltender Ryan Nie stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Wheeling Nailers fell 3-0 Saturday at the Cambria County War Memorial. It was the first shutout of the season for Nie, playing in his first game since Nov. 10 when he allowed six goals.
After a scoreless first period, Johnstown opened up a 2-0 lead in a span of 5:04. Randy Rowe notched his fifth goal of the season at 5:09 of the second. On the power play, Kenny Roche slid a pass through the crease to Rowe waiting at the backdoor.
A similar play gave the Chiefs an insurance goal at 10:13. This time it was Mark Tobin finding Kris Kasper standing at the side of the net for his third of the year.
The game would stay 2-0 until 18:44 of the third period with the Chiefs on the power play. Jean Desrochers banged home the rebound of a Michael Cohen shot past Martin Houle. Houle stopped 28 of the 31 shots that he faced in his first start since being activated off the injured reserve before the game yesterday.
The Nailers were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Chiefs scored were 2-for4. Wheeling returns to the friendly confines of WesBanco Arena Sunday evening at 6:05p.m. to face the Reading Royals. They are 6-1-1 at home and are unbeaten in regulation in their past seven games at WesBanco Arena.
