Steelheads Let Third Period Lead Slip Away In 2-1 Loss To Wranglers
December 1, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Las Vegas, NV - Wranglers' captain Peter Ferraro tallied twice in the third period to spoil a solid effort by Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (30 saves) and help the Wranglers to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Steelheads in front of 6,385 fans at Orleans Arena on Friday night.
The Steelheads (6-6-6) remain winless on the road in seven games this season, while the Wranglers (15-2-0) have won 11 consecutive games and sport the best mark in the ECHL.
Ferraro's first of the night came at 6:55 of the third period when he ripped a one-timer from the left circles past Silverthorn for his ninth of the year. Defensemen Mike Madill and Aaron Power collected the helpers on the power play tally, which evened the score at one. Then, late in regulation, Ferraro redirected a Ryan Donally feed past Silverthorn for his 300th career goal and his third game-winner. Bruce Mulherin added the second assist.
Earlier in the contest Mike Sullivan gave the Steelheads a 1-0 lead, scoring a power play goal, his sixth of the season, just 97 seconds into the first period . Blake Forsyth and Taggart Desmet grabbed the helpers, as Desmet's shot was fought off by Wranglers' goaltender Kevin Lalande (19 saves) but Sullivan found the rebound and backhanded the puck over the goaltender's right shoulder.
After one period the Steelheads led 1-0, which marked their first lead after 20 minutes of play on the road this season. The shots however favored the Wranglers 11-7.
There was no scoring in the second period.
The final shots favored the Wranglers 32-20. Both teams registered a power play goal, with the Steelheads getting five chances and the Wranglers having four opportunities. Lalande remains perfect with the Wranglers at 4-0-0 and Silverthorn is now winless in four games and he stands at 2-4-3.
The Steelheads wrap up their three-game series with the Wranglers on Saturday, December 1. The puck drops at 8:05 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
