Neuvirth Wins His First NHL Game With the Capitals

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Stingrays Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar are pleased to announce that former Stingray Michal Neuvirth won his first NHL game helping the Washington Capitals beat the Tampa Bay Lightening 5-1 in Tampa Bay.

"It's always great to have one of our players succeed in the National league," said Bednar. "It's great for him, and it's great for us. Having two guys in one season make it to the NHL from our team is testament to our club."

Neuvirth got the win by stopping 31 of the 32 shots that he faced in the game. He also received the number three star of the game. While with the Stingrays, Neuvirth went 6-7-0-0 in 13 games with a 2.28 GAA and a .918 save percentage.

Neuvirth, 20, is in his rookie season after playing two seasons in the OHL, splitting time with the Plymouth Whalers, Windsor Spitfires and Oshawa Generals. The Usti Labem, Czech Rep. native went 4-3-2 with the Hershey Bears of the AHL before getting the call up to Washington. Originally, Neuvirth was the Capitals' 2nd round pick (34th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rays will be back in action tomorrow when they return home to take on the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 5:00 P.M.
